This winter transfer window proves to be a period of significant rumour and possible major transfers. A number of notable footballers are being connected to transfers out of their present teams. This article explores a selection of the key names that might be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has left the forward available, indications are a major move is close. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a substantial buy-out clause applicable for a short window at the start of the month. Latest developments indicate Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have moved on to other targets, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute move.

The England centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Anfield falling through. With his deal due to run out in the summer, this represents the London club's final opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. The Cherries appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally showing an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

This Portugal playmaker might be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, and with his agreement ending in the summer of 2026, he is a potential opportunity. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the player. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he would be willing to take a pay cut for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

This experienced Germany goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barcelona under the manager Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter departure seems increasingly probable. Villa were initially linked as a potential destination, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing interest in the keeper.

Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but face a race to keep one of the continent's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Dutch midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. This teenager is widely tipped to complete a major move this month. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from Real Madrid for a deal priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
