Military Strikes in Gaza Allegedly Kill at Least 12, Among the Deadliest Casualty Counts Since Fall Agreement

Medical facilities in the territory reported that airstrikes claimed the lives of at least 12 Palestinians on Saturday, marking one of the deadliest incidents since an October agreement designed to halting the fighting.

Details of the Strikes

The missiles hit sites in northern and southern Gaza, such as an apartment building in Gaza City and a shelter in Khan Younis, as stated by medical authorities that received the bodies. The casualties included two women and six children from separate households.

Israeli planes carried out additional attacks, while the army issued an evacuation warning for a building in Khan Younis, in anticipation of an attack.

Mounting Toll Amid Ceasefire Efforts

These attacks occurred a day before a passage point was slated to reopen in Gaza’s south, a stark indication that the death toll is still rising even as a truce deal inches forward.

Every entry points have been closed since the start of the war, and residents view the Rafah passage with Egypt as a crucial conduit for the many thousands requiring treatment beyond the territory because most of its medical infrastructure has been destroyed by aerial assaults.

Authorities aim to guarantee that more Palestinians leave Gaza than enter it, as per reports, which indicated Israel is aiming to allow only 150 Palestinians into Gaza through Rafah daily.

Medical Center Reports

Shifa hospital said an aerial attack on Gaza City killed a mother, three children and one of their relatives on that morning. Separately, Nasser hospital stated a strike in a makeshift settlement caused a blaze, claiming seven, including a father, his three children and three young relatives.

Health authorities have recorded more than five hundred people dead from military action since the beginning of the ceasefire on a date in October.

Israel’s military did not provide a prompt response to inquiries about the strikes.

Ceasefire Agreement and Future Vision

In spite of repeated lethal incidents involving Palestinians in violation of the autumn truce, the agreement has entered a crucial second phase. Some of the thorniest issues are part of this phase, which would necessitate Hamas to disarm and hand over power to a proposed peace administration organisation.

A recently outlined vision presented a blueprint for “developing Gaza”, complete with modern towers and corniches overlooking the Mediterranean.

Context of Devastation

The vast majority of the territory has been levelled and basic infrastructure remains non-functional as a consequence of aerial campaigns over the past two years, which has also killed more than 70,000 Palestinians. Last year, a United Nations investigation found that Israel had committed a crime against humanity in Gaza.
